Info: Performance horses and colt starting. We start all of our colts with a lot of ground work and then continue at the horses ability. we are located in the heart of the rockies in Costilla NM. we do a lot of mountain riding and true working horses are born after being in the mountains. we do a lot of ranch work with horses and after there first 2 or 3 rides we take them outside and check cows and our advanced horses start doctoring calves and learning the ranching aspect of training if a horse is still with us after 2 or 3 months of training we will start them for what ever discipline you wish. we have large pens and horses are given full feed and grain once a day. I am a Farrier as well and trimming and shoeing is not included until 3 months of training for an appointment for shoeing or training call or email.
We start all of our colts or older horses in a gentle way. I dont believe in pushing a horse past there learning ability. When we bring your horse or our horses in they are all treated the same way. I dont train mass amounts of horses so i can really take the time a horse needs.
We start by getting them facing and giving to pressure in the round pen and once they have that down solid they began desensatizing. we use our own body tools ofcourse and also used tarps and jackets and gloves and anything we can find the horse is affraid of then we work them until they are solid with any object on there body including saddle us dogs anything.
Then we get all of our horses giving to the bit and leg pressure and they began there riding. From there they are takin to whatever asspect of training they are wanted for. I personnally like to ride them on the ranch for 30 to 60 days then start them in there dicipline. |

Train with kindness From Liza I have worked with so many breeds. Many abused, or neglected to the point of abuse. I have found if you take the time to watch the horse interact with other equines, and humans, you will gain a better knowledge of his/her problems/phobias (whatever you choose to call it). I take all horses, and use gentle tequiniques. Some have... |
The Way Of Horses Before jumping on the natural horsemanship hay wagon, examine methods used to care for horses!! One of the most neglected areas is how horses are fed. Make Money With Horses If you’re going to make money with horses, you need confidence. And a lack of self-confidence is one of the greatest deterrents to success. Here are six ways to help you boost your confidence, which in turn will boost your income. The first thing you must do is eliminate the words, “I can’t.” You hear those words all the time, because people say them all the time. If you say I can’t out loud, eventually you’ll begin to believe it. “The market is down, I can’t sell horses at a decent price.” Horse feathers!!! If you think you can’t you are probably correct. But I know dozens of horse traders who make money when the market is down and when the market... |
Forage and Forage Substitutes If you can't afford one - don't assume the responsibility. Caring for a horse is expensive. Horses are easy to purchase. The price of horses hasn't changed much in the last 20 years. In 1987 you could buy a pretty decent riding horse for $800 - you still can. But the price of caring for that horse has increased dramatically. The cost of feeding a horse is one of the most common complaints. If you want them to be healthy, you've got to feed them, and the horse's unique digestive system won't tolerate "substitutes". The horse is designed to eat forage…hay or grass. Depending on the horse and the quality of forage a horse needs about 1.5 - 3.0 percent of his body weight per day in forage. This... |
